That is exactly what I'm thinking, and exactly why I'm not too thrilled until we find out more. If it's a one time fee, like $20-30 US, fine, if it's a monthly, very few GW players will do it because that's a top5 reason people play GW. It just won't be worth it if only a handful of people use it in that case.

if they offer a pay for voice chat that'll be a collossal waste of their time
vent, teamspeak, roger wilco, etc etc etc, all free any easy to use
edit: and are already well-established in the community who need real time voice chat

And for non-serious PvE/PvP groups...you will hate that change. Trust me. 2 years of Xbox Live have told me that...

Agreed. It will be pretty cool at first. But hearing all the little 10 year olds playing, *cringes* just like in XBOX live. O god...
/supports the integrated voice chat.

Let me get it straight ... were being constantly told that popular updates like more storage and a-house, etc. are impossible because lack of BW and server resources, yet we get freaking voice chat that is very wastefull as far as server resource are concerned and that is not being desired by comunity at all ... jeez.

Again, the server bandwidth is being provided by NCsoft for all their games. It's not something Anet's spending their budget on. It's not something that Anet thought the community wanted, it's something NCsoft decided to incorporate into all their games.

Which part of "NCSoft service" you don't understand?

Voice coms? You mean to hear the screeching screaming voices of pre-teenagers all around you? You mean dealing with all the cussing like in XBox Live games? You mean having to turn the voice volume way down to be happy again?
I would rather they add a builtin comms system with pre-recorded voice, ala Unreal Tournament.

The way they described it as "you can invite others to talk with you"; it's not just an open channel with a bunch of morons running around screaming. You invite who you want to talk with and it can be anyone playing any of NCsoft's games.

I rather like the ability to converse via text or voice with other NCSoft product's players--I have several friends who play both GW and Lineage, and it's not always easy to get ahold of them when they're in L2.

I really hope they add an efficient in-game voice com, it saves heavily on system resources (takes the stress away from my computer), dont need a server to run, and doesnt hog major other resources (like skype). It would be a really important upgrade to all of NCsoft's game.
And I dont get where everyone is thinking it will be like CS. It will clearly be a designated team/guild setup, it would be unbelievably useless and resource consuming to have an ALL voice chat, so stop being of the paranoid sheltered *ZOMG I HAVE ONLY USED INTEGRATED VOICE CHAT IN CS THEREFORE IT MUST BE LIKE WHAT NCSOFT IS PLANNING* opinion. That voice chat is for a server with limited amounts of people, guild wars is an MMO, not a single server for those annoying CS kids (of which I mute, its very easy to ignore).

We wouldn't be hearing their voices, just seeing text in the chat box.

I sincerely hope its like that: a voice recognition feature that shows what you are saying in text. I'm a bit clumsy with fast typing and I never chat when I am fighting. And I refuse to use real voice programs like teamspeak because part of the fun in games like this is roleplaying and imagination. I don't want to know how someone really is or sounds.

In the right group, voice chat is excellent, but with the wrong people it can make online gameplay completely and utterly miserable. There are reasons I don't play Halo 2 on Xbox Live anymore...

What do you want to bet this is a background service they will be adding to the PlayNC Launcher. IE something 99% of GW gamers don't use.

I do not want this. P.E.R.I.O.D...
I have friends that play on 56k dialup. Voice chat kills them, because of bandwidth. Add voice chat in GW, and they're dead.

You are ridiculous.
They won't give that option and not be able to let someone turn it off. They would have to be ignorant and stupid not to include that.

Yeah, Well, Turning down the graphics and sound do absolutly nothing to the internet speed.
And I feel that more people would use this than chat, so it would be rather hard to do one without the other.
If they have a way to not ruin my friends experence, I'm all for it.
